7 Tips to Keep in Mind When Thrifting
Hello Posh Squad,
I’ve been a thrift fashion consumer for many years. But I confess that it was from mid-2021 that I started buying more consciously.
Thrift store shopping takes patience and self-control, but you can find some of the best items at consignment shops like your local Goodwill store or the Salvation Army. There’s a strategy to becoming an efficient thrifter, and if you do it often enough, you can end up with great finds at much lower prices than you would at a standard retail store.
I bought some pieces during the year that I would never find in stores, first because they are no longer available, second because they are not items that we see around.
Before going on this adventure, I would like to share a few things to prepare you for this.
Here are the top seven things I learned:
1º Dress for the occasion: I would advised to dress in form-fitting clothing, so I can easily try on clothes out in the open. Fitting rooms aren’t always available. (So I wore workout clothe.)
2º Develop a strategy: Arrive early, identify which sections you’d like to visit first, and whatever you think you may like, throw it in your cart and evaluate it later.
3º Be patient: It may take a little while to go through the racks, so a little patience can help you score some great items.
4º Have an open mind: Don’t get hung up on the sizes on the tags; evaluate the clothing based on how it fits.
5º Get creative: Try to be forward-thinking and visualize how you can pair your finds with the already existing pieces in your wardrobe. You also want to think about how you can wear those items in different ways.
6º Be forward-looking: Thrifting is great for finding unexpected and unique items. If you find something you like and it may work for a future event or occasion, purchase it and save it for later.
7º Resist the urge: Just because something is inexpensive, doesn’t mean it’s a good buy. Be discerning with your purchases and only buy things you really love.
Let me know how it turned out 😉
